Introduction

Hello,

I am a student. I was assigned this blog as a homework task. We have had many online expiriences with our current English and Lit. teacher. We had a wikispace where we work on our own, and now she has come up with this other wonderful idea of teaching.I am very interestged in Civil Engineering, I think of studying it in college. I find the thought of having to work in constructing things, using a variety of different work to find an answer, very interesting.I will keep on writing ideally every day, although some days it might be challenging to complete the task.

Ms. Rumford´s Questions 

1.      Freedom of speech to me is saying whatever you truly think. Not what everyone expects and wants you to say or what you think will get you the most success; but what you truly think deep in your heart about a topic or an answer. Freedom is being able to express your thoughts without any repercussion. Of course that you would try to avoid offending someone in an inner way such as their religion, which would lead you to offend the whole religious followers (that wouldn’t be good). I think that you should be free to say whatever you want and other people should have to listen to you if it is not offending you in any way. I think that using the first amendment could protect you from a law suit but it would be a very grayish area to decide in. Many people are afraid to say things in the world, from students in school to grownups at work, because of people mocking them or strongly offending them. The definition of freedom of speech is the right of people to express their opinions publicly without governmental interference, subject to the laws against libel, incitement to violence or rebellion, etc. This really tells us what is included in freedom of speech to see if there are any limits which we can see there aren´t.

A very important part of the economy of a country depends on its structures. For example, roads into the country and around its tourist attractions are very important to exploit the countries beauties. There are many countries in Central America that have very bad roads, due to this fact many tourists are complaining about the countries structural development. In Costa Rica there are many roads although not all of them paved. This quantity of roads has made the difference for this countries tourism. Many tourists are asked what they think about their stay at their country at the airport and they all seem to agree in 2 things; these are that every time they come here everything is way more expensive and that the roads here are very bad and should be good. My reasoning for them being in a very good state is that with all this money coming into the country because of the tourism the government should be able to take some of this money to building a better public infrastructure for this country, that is as I said before, is developing in massive ways in the private sector.  Other countries in Central and South America have better roads but don’t have access to as many places in the country as Costa Rica has. I also have noticed the toll prices varying enormously in all the countries. In Costa Rica for example the most expensive tolls are off 200 colones (approximately 50 cents) as you can see the roads are not any excellence. In Colombia the maximum tolls are off 5200 pesos (approximately 2.50 $). In Colombia the roads are excellent; you don’t encounter holes or any movement in the car for miles. I have gone in one of the longest and most traditional trips of Colombia which is about 450-500 kilometers in about 6 hours. In many countries you could never drive 500 kilometers in 6 hours not just because of the traffic but because of the damage it would do to your car to go at that speed through these roads.

Although Costa Rica has very low toll prices, has thousands of access roads to the heart of the country it lacks in infrastructure for the country.
